Living in the UK
You can be resident in the UK but have your permanent home in another country. You may be resident here while you’re doing a job, but your domicile remains the country you intend to go back to. If you’re living in the UK, you may have restrictions on how long you can stay and you can only work here, while resident if you have the correct work permits or are free to work here because you’re a citizen of a country that is a member of the European Union. Someone who is working here can apply to remain indefinitely after four years.
If you have permission to be in the UK for a particular length of time, you may be able to apply to stay longer, but if you stay without applying, you’re committing a criminal offence.
