Paying for hospital treatment
It may come as a shock to you but most drivers involved in road accidents to discover that they can be charged for any emergency medical treatment, given to any of the people involved, by a doctor who happens to be at the scene of the accident at that time. You will get the bill or notice from the doctor that was at the scene after the accident, and you can usually make a claim from your insurance company or the other party’s insurer if someone else was to blame. If a doctor arrives on the scene after being called from a hospital, you won’t see a bill.
If anyone involved in an accident needs hospital treatment, the private hospital or the Department of Health, on behalf of the NHS, may claim some of the costs from the insurance company of the driver who caused the accident. In any eventuality, you should discuss this with your insurers when you are about to take a policy out to make sure you have this covered in your policy.
