Claiming Welfare Benefits
The fact that you’re employed and working doesn’t mean that you aren’t entitled to any welfare benefits from the government. Some of the benefits you’re entitled to depend on your income and are means-tested. Others depend on the national insurance contributions you’ve paid in the past but aren’t means-tested.
The benefits system is complicated because of the range of benefits and the many different offices that deal with them. If you do think your wages are low enough or you’re employed but not getting any wages because you’re off sick, talk to your nearest Citizens Advice Bureau. An advisor there can go through all the figures with you and tell you how to claim.
